Referee Game Day Schedule

When you arrive at Danehy to referee your game(s), please follow this schedule:

30 minutes before game

  • Arrive at Danehy and check in with the referee managers.
  • Get your referee shirt on—tuck it in!
  • Make sure you have your whistle and stopwatch (you checked your bag the night before, so shouldn't be any issues here, right?)

15 minutes before game

  • Go to the field; the prior game will still be going on, but coaches and teams for the next game will start to assemble near the field.
  • Introduce yourself to the coaches before warmups — look at their face when introducing yourself.
  • Remind them of the pre-game sportsmanship message that must be read by players to parents along the spectator touchline (sideline). Coaches can access the sportsmanship message on their phone from the CYS website. This is required before every game, regardless of the schedule.
  • Put away your phone.

As soon as prior game is complete and players for your game are warming up:

  • Stand at the kickoff spot so that both teams can see that you're there and ready.
  • Look at the players on the field. If you see a player warming up without shin guards or wearing jewelry, tell them now to avoid a problem during equipment check.
  • Coaches and players may come to you with questions.

10 minutes before game

Check each player's equipment (near top of penalty area for each team).

  • Sneakers or cleats required (no Crocs or other unsafe footwear)
  • Shin guards (they will tap them to indicate that they are there) can be worn over or under socks.
  • Jerseys visible (if they're wearing a fleece to start, that's OK as long as it's unzipped and the jersey is visible)

5 minutes before game

  • Tell coaches it's time for the sportsmanship message. Players assemble and walk over to spectator touchline to read sportsmanship message to parents. (stand with coaches and players as they read it)
  • Get a game ball from the coach.

2 min before game

Players line up on field for kick off. Make sure you know if it's 8v8, 7v7, or fewer ... all OK as long as it's even.

Kickoff!

FINAL NOTE: Games in the afternoon often start a little behind schedule. This is the basic order, so do your best to do the above as soon as you can to avoid delays.

Thanks!
